Stephen Steinbrink

Stephen Steinbrink is a songwriter, producer, and visual artist. Immersing himself in the West Coast underground DIY community in the mid-2000s, Steinbrink left on his first tour at the age of sixteen and continued performing internationally for a decade, living an improvised existence and recording incessantly. He has released nine critically acclaimed albums of experimental pop music and has collaborated as a producer and session player with artists including Boy Scouts/Taylor Vick, Dear Nora, Gia Margaret, LAKE, and Girlpool.

His songs, though appearing luminous and graceful on the surface, use the recognizable logic of pop structures as a container for psychic inquiry, revealing the unstable landscapes of memory, dreams, and the quotidian absurdities of daily life. Over two decades, Steinbrink has become one of the most distinctive songwriters on the U.S. West Coast, with a rarely matched gift for poetic imagery carried by a musical language that moves across folk, experimental pop, and ambient experimentation.

In visual art, Steinbrink works in illustration, photography, animation, and Stained Glass conservation, having restored historic art glass throughout Northern California. He currently lives and works in Oakland, California.
